Almond Oil
What: Body moisturizer
How: “After a shower when you are still damp, apply to your body as you would a lotion,” says Toronto-based naturopathic doctor Kate Whimster.
Why: Almond oil is high in vitamin E, which absorbs well into the skin and provides a natural layer of moisture, notes Whimster.
Note: If you have a nut allergy, avoid almond oil, warms Whimster. For other oils, try a few drops inside your elbow first to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction.
Castor Oil
What: Acne treatment
How: Spot-treat the affected areas. Apply daily for a few weeks; reduce frequency as redness and inflammation subside.
Why: The ricinoleic acid in castor oil has anti-inflammatory properties. Although it seems counterintuitive to put oil on acne-prone skin, it will help, says registered nutritionist Joey Shulman, author of The Natural Makeover Diet.
