Vine napkin rings
To fashion unique napkin rings for special dinner parties, gather sections of deciduous vines in the fall. Good choices for this project are grapevine, honeysuckle, trumpet vine, and wisteria.
1. Wrap a length of vine around the fingers of one hand three or four times to make a ring shape with an inside diameter or about 4 cm (1-1/2 in.). Use wire twist-ties to hold the shape temporarily.
2. Tie the ring shape in four places with thin, pliable sections of vine. Wrap the vine around 3 or 4 times before knotting it. Let the rings dry out in a cool, dry place for a week or more.
3. Decorate each napkin ring on one side with tiny dried flowers, nuts, pods, and pinecones. Apply these with a glue gun and allow then to dry thoroughly before inserting the napkins.
